Provincial Role Provinces have the primary responsibility for the protection of animals, including their on-farm conditions. Provincial legislation is described in the Canadian Food Inspection Agency document entitled Canada's Farm Animal Welfare Infrastructure, which provides a comprehensive summary of Canada's legislative and voluntary animal welfare standards.
