Erika L. Voogd Voogd Consulting, Inc. Background/Area of Expertise: Erika Voogd is currently working as an independent consultant specializing in global assistance to the Meat Industry. Her expertise includes Animal Welfare, Food Safety, HACCP, Quality Assurance, Sanitation and USDA Regulatory Compliance. Bio: Erika Voogd is currently working as an independent consultant specializing in global assistance to the Meat Industry. Erika was the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager for OSI Industries, Inc from 1994 to 2003. From 1983 to 1994, she worked in Quality Assurance, Production and Sanitation for the Oscar Mayer Foods division of Kraft USA. She received her Masters Degree in Meat Science and Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from University of Illinois. Since 1999, Ms. Voogd has worked closely with Dr. Temple Grandin and McDonald's during the implementation of the McDonald's System Animal Welfare goals in Asia, Australia, Latin America and North America. She has assisted Dr. Grandin during training of auditors in Asia, Australia and N. America and has independently taught McDonald's System auditors in S America, Canada, Latin and Central America. Recent assignments include training on behalf of the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service to prepare meat plants for export to the United States. This training involved HACCP, SSOP and Humane Handling education of inspectors, Regulatory staff and plant management. Eight beef plants and pork were located in Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Serbia and nine poultry plants were located in Costa Rica and Honduras. Ms. Voogd has been an active member of the American Meat Institute Inspection and Animal Welfare Committees. In 2005, she spoke about Managing Animal Welfare at the annual Canadian Meat Council Meeting in Ottawa. She has presented at several AMI Symposiums and Workshops related to HACCP, Food Safety and Animal Handling.
