Gord Doonan Canadian Food Inspection Agency Background/Area of Expertise: Transportation of Animals, Government role in animal welfare Bio: Gord Doonan obtained a B.Sc. in Agriculture from McGill University in 1974 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Guelph in 1978. He practiced farm animal medicine in Nova Scotia and Ontario until 1981, when he began working as a veterinary inspector for Agriculture Canada in Windsor, Ontario. Since 1992 he has worked in Ottawa, where he has devoted his efforts to coordinating the Transportation of Animals Program for Agriculture Canada and its successor, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. Dr. Doonan participates on committees with several national and international organizations whose mandates include the transportation of animals and farm animal welfare. Presentation Title: The title is in accordance with the topic, which usually has to do with 1) the Health of Animals Regulations, Part XII, concerning the transportation of animals, or some other aspect of animal transport, or 2) the role of government in animal welfare Speaker Cost: There are no speaker costs other than for travel and accommodations.
